the calling agent
About us

Most businesses lose work to a phone nobody could reach.

We built the thing that picks it up — and then spent most of our time on what it must never do.

The problem was never answering

Plenty of software can pick up a phone and read a script. That was never the hard part. The hard part is that a script does not know your Sunday hours, cannot see whether the eight o’clock slot is actually free, and has no idea which calls you would rather take yourself.

So most systems hand the business a blank script and wish it luck. The owner — who runs a garage, or a clinic, or a recruitment desk — is asked to think like a telephony engineer, and gives up somewhere around the third settings screen.

We inverted it. The software interviews the business, in plain language, and compiles a working agent from the answers. Nobody is asked to translate their own trade into our vocabulary.

What that actually means

You talk to it for about ten minutes. It asks what you do, when you are open, what people ring about, what you would rather handle yourself. Those answers compile into a real phone agent — with your hours, your services and your rules inside it. Change a price on Tuesday and it knows on the very next call.

The same engine works in three directions: it answers the line, it works an outbound list, and it screens applicants against a brief. One platform, because they are the same problem wearing different clothes — a conversation that has to end in something happening, and a record of what.

The part we are strict about

An agent speaking under your name to a member of the public is not a place for clever guesses. Most of the engineering here is spent on restraint: what the agent is allowed to say, when it must stop and hand over, and what happens to somebody who asks not to be contacted again.

What we hold it to

Four rules, and none of them are optional.

It does not invent

Everything the agent tells a caller comes from something the owner told it. Where it does not know, it says so and takes a message. A confident guess on a phone line is worse than no answer at all.

A refusal outlives the campaign

"Stop contacting me" is stored against the person, not the list it was said during. Deleting the contact does not clear it, and merging two records keeps it. Someone who has said no should never be rung again by us.

Nobody is held off the phone

Setup fills in what it can and steps aside where it cannot. A missing detail is a thing to fix later, never a locked door between an owner and a working phone line.

A person is one step away

The agent hands over when a conversation calls for it — a complaint, an unusual request, anything the owner asked it to leave alone. Nobody should be stuck arguing with software.

Judge it by talking to it.

Everything above is checkable in about two minutes. Go and try to catch it out.
